Embedded Software in Crisis

چکیده
› A person was arrested on suspicion of having hacked into a United Boeing 737 during an April 2015 flight from Denver, Colorado, to Syracuse, New York.1 › Software caused three engines on a Spanish Airbus A400M Atlas military transport plane to improperly shut down during a flight in May 2015, causing it to crash and killing four crew members.2,3 › In July 2015, two researchers demonstrated how to take over a Jeep Cherokee using the car’s telematics system, killing the engine and disabling the brakes while a journalist drove the car.4 › In September 2015, Volkswagen admitted to installing software that defeated the emissions control system during testing on as many as 11 million diesel cars going back to 2009.5

Current Issues and Challenges in Embedded Software Development
Information appliances are rapidly emerging in the consumer electronics market as a result of recent convergence of telecommunication, consumer electronics, and information technologies. As a result of that, information appliances often take the form of the culmination of networked distributed embedded systems. This poses a great deal of new design challenges to embedded systems developers, whi...

Standards concerned with the development of safety-critical systems, and the software in such systems in particular, abound today as the software crisis increasingly aaects the world of embedded computer-based systems. The use of formal methods is often advocated as a way of increasing conndence in such systems. This paper examines the industrial use of these techniques, the recommendations con...

متن کاملPanel Session - Who Is Closing the embedded software design gap?
As pointed out in the ITRS roadmap, the level of embedded software complexity is greater than the pure HW complexity of SoCs when comparing, for example, lines of HDL and C code. Even worse, SW complexity grows faster than HW complexity (Moore's Law) and SW productivity increases more slowly than HW productivity. A new design gap-the gap of embedded software – as appeared. EDA has now identifie...
متن کاملTowards Better Coordination of Rescue Teams in Crisis Situations: A Promising ACO Algorithm
Crisis management challenges decision support systems designers. One problem in the decision marking is developing systems able to help the coordination of the different involved teams. Another challenge is to make the system work with a degraded communication infrastructure. Each workstation or embedded application must be designed such as potential decisions made trought other workstations ar...
